DETAILED DESCRIPTION:  

 

Day 1- Arrive Kigali International Airport

Upon arrival, at Kigali International Airport (KGL), you will be met outside customs area by a driver guide and drive to hotel. Dinner and Overnight at Hôtel des Mille Collines or similar www.millecollines.rw/

 

Day 2- Kigali Cultural Tourism

Embark to explore Kigali. Take a city tour to visit interesting spots which include; the craft market, Gisozi Genocide Memorial site & Kigali museum. Then head to Ruhengeri area the second largest town in Rwanda, with its stunning backdrop of five volcanic mountains (The Virungas), arriving for lunch at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge. If tim­e permits, visit the twin lakes of Bulera & Ruhondo- These are beautiful lakes located at the base of the volcano Muhabura and close to the border of Uganda. Get to the viewpoint then return for Dinner and Overnight at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (FB) or similar. www.3bhotels.com/mgvl/

 

Day 3- Gorilla Tracking

After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the National

Park headquarters – Kinigi to meet your guides for the day. After completing your park formalities, you will embark on a once in a lifetime experience of tracking mountain gorillas. You are able get so close to these awesome giant primates. Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga is a magical experience. You will get within meters of the family, and be privileged to spend an hour amongst them. Dinner & Overnight Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (BB) or similar.

 

Day 4- Travel to Nairobi

Depart early in the morning from Ruhengeri to travel to Kigali. Upon reaching Kigali catch flight to Nairobi, Kenya. Dinner and Overnight at EKA Hotel or similar. www.ekahotel.com/

 

Day 5- Elephants and Giraffes of Nairobi / Travel to Tanzania

Today we visit two of Nairobi’s most famous attractions- the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and Nairobi Giraffe Centrer.  Learn about the endangered Rothschild giraffe and see up close how major conservation efforts are being made to protect this graceful animal.  At the David Sheldrick Elephant orphanage, young orphaned elephants are cared for after being rescued and fed until they are mature to be released to the wild. Get up-close with these incredible animals, a once in a lifetime experience.  In the afternoon enjoy lunch in a local restaurant then. Then travel to Arusha by private shuttle to begin safari.  Stop in Arusha to meet safari guide and travel to Karatu. Day 6- Ngorongoro Crater & Central Serengeti National Park  

After an early breakfast depart with picnic lunch and descend the steep walls of the crater for an early morning game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is a world heritage site, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and is commonly referred to as the 8th wonder of the world. The 2,000 feet high walls of the approximately 10 miles wide crater form a natural amphitheater for the densest population of large animals anywhere. It is a microcosm of the vast Serengeti National Park and in one day it is possible to see a staggering array of East Africa wildlife including the rare black rhino and massive bull elephants. The Crater is truly awe-inspiring and will surely be one of the highlights of your safari.

Visit a Maasai village for a cultural interaction. The Maasai have likely inhabited this part of Tanzania and Kenya since the mid-15th century; today many of Tanzania’s famous parks were once part of their lands. Nomadic pastoralists, they retain many of their traditions, including their colorful dress and ceremonies.  Game viewing in the Serengeti en-route to your lodge.  Dinner and overnight at KATIKATI http://twctanzania.com/en/accommodation/kati-kati-tented-camp/

 

Day 7– Central Serengeti National Park  

Today you will have one full game-viewing day in the Central Serengeti exploring the resident animals along the Seronera River.  This vast valley teems with wildlife, with plentiful vegetation supporting herbivores throughout the year. Wildebeest, zebras, elephants, giraffes, gazelles and many other species can be spotted hear on any given day. The large amount of prey also draws the highest population of predators. Day 8 & 9– Northern Serengeti National Park  

Travel further north, to the wildlife-rich Northern Serengeti. Over two full days we will cover we will explore the area to the fullest, with early morning and late afternoon drives. Overnight at Mara Kati Kati or similar http://twctanzania.com/en/accommodation/mara-kati-kati-tented-camp/

 

Day 10 – Serengeti Departure/ Zanzibar

After breakfast, drive to the airstrip to catch your flight to Zanzibar. Upon arrival in Zanzibar, will you be met by your tour guide and transported to your hotel. Tour of Stone Town, Slave Market and Spice Tour.  Dinner and overnight at Maru Maru www.marumaruzanzibar.com

 

Day 11, 12 & 13– Beaches of Zanzibar

You will spend 3 nights on the lovely beaches of Zanzibar; there are a number of water activities, which can be arranged. Overnight at Sunshine Marine Lodge or similar www.marinelodgezanzibar.com/

 

Day 14- Departure Zanzibar/DAR/USA. Check out of your room and be transported to Zanzibar airport for your flight to Dar-es-Salaam Airport.

 

This itinerary represents intended routing. The final routing might be modified based on recent wildlife activity, weather, and accommodation or transportation logistics.

 

East African Tour: $8,500 per person, double occupancy (based off of 6 people min)

Note: Single supplement (not sharing with roommate) additional $1500

 

Additional Option: Hot air balloon over the Serengeti, additional $600 per person.

The balloon safari offers you an opportunity to see the Serengeti from a unique perspective. You will notice wildlife trails made by generations of animals impossible to see from the ground. It will be followed by breakfast in the bush.
